The castle cannot be visited yet. A museum project dedicated to St-Exupéry, supported by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, is underway and restoration of the buildings has begun.

A little history for the curious. The castle was built in the middle of the 1756th century (1756) by Claude Colabau de Rignieux, former captain in the Bourbonnais regiment. A long succession of owners followed, and the castle was not disturbed during the French Revolution. A book was written on the history of this place from XNUMX, the date of its construction to the present day "Le château du Petit Prince" by Patrick Don published by Poutan.

The castle hosted Antoine de Saint-Exupéry during part of his childhood and he never stopped referring to it in many of his works or writings. (Terres des hommes, Pilote de guerre, etc.)

The castle was acquired in 1932 by the school fund of the city of Lyon, to make it a preventorium colony, which the Countess of Saint-Exupéry was delighted with. From 1953 to 1986 the establishment welcomed young people from Lyon, wards of the nation and then foster children. Until 1993 it was also a holiday camp for children from the cities of Brest and Lyon, managed by the latter's school fund.

In September 1939 the castle was requisitioned for a project to install an additional military hospital, which gave rise to the installation of central heating. The estate was returned to the school fund of the city of Lyon on July 27, 1940.

In December 1944, a little nod to the aeronautical dreams of Saint Ex. Pilots belonging to the TAF (tactical air force) took off from Saint-Maurice and stayed at the castle, including the French ace Edmond Marin La Meslée.
The castle was the property of ALATFA from 1997 to 2008. Since 2008 the domain is no longer occupied.

In 2009, it was finally bought by the municipality of Saint-Maurice-de-Rémens.
In September 2019, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region announces the purchase of the castle from the municipality of Saint-Maurice in order to complete the project for so long in the boxes. On February 03, 2020 the sale to the Region is formalized.
