Village of Montagnieu

Pet Friendly

Montagnieu owes its reputation to the vines, grown on the steep slopes of the mountain of Souhait, and to its sparkling white wine, bearing the name of the village. The very large flowering adds to the charm of the place!

The walk in the village offers a view of a small winegrower's habitat accompanied by more classic buildings very well highlighted. The territory of the municipality of Montagnieu ranges from 200 m above sea level on the banks of the Rhône, in the hamlet of Les Granges, and 707 m in the mountain of Wishes. The famous Montagnieu traditional method is produced on these slopes: white champagne with elegant foam and fine bubbles, to drink very chilled as an aperitif or with dessert. The appellation vineyard occupies around thirty hectares, spread over the communes of Montagnieu, Seillonnaz and Briord.

From an architectural point of view, we will notice the Oncin tower (private building). This tower was certainly built in the 15th century with the aim of forming a link in the defense system of the Counts of Groslée. On this site currently stands a dwelling consisting of several buildings. The construction of the house dates from the last century.
