Founded in 1986, the museum was the first of its kind to open in France. It offers a superb collection of incredible fossils of animals, plants and marine life dating back to the Jurassic era. Some major pieces are today preserved by the Musée des Confluences in Lyon. The quarries, labeled Sensitive Natural Space, where the excavations were carried out are located just above, at the end of an interpretation trail "in the footsteps of the quarrymen".
