This pretty family interpretive trail offers the discovery of a built heritage linked to the exploitation of choin, the local stone, as well as a walk in the heart of a natural environment whose biodiversity is to be preserved. A calm and instructive walk!
Explanatory stations have been placed along the path linking the different places constituting the trail of sensitive natural areas.
We start with the site of the old quarries where is valued what made the reputation of the town: its limestone, formerly called "choin". It was exploited until the middle of the 20th century.
The millstone quarry is the only quarry in the region to present all the extraction techniques (manual and mechanical) as well as the elements related to the exploitation (forge, powder cabin and marinière).
The path then allows you to discover the old forge, the slabs of the Octave plateau and the Orange quarry (just before the hamlet of Bouis).
These last two sites present traces of tanks which attest to the transport of the stone to the Rhône.
Along the way we learn to know better the life of the quarry workers, their work and the specificities of a generous and intelligent nature.
In the great calm of nature bugiste we contemplate centuries of history and mineral and green landscapes, despite everything.
Free activities are organized by the Conservatory of Rhônes-Alpes natural areas throughout the year.
