Exceptional geological site offering very beautiful landscapes in height. First exploited for its lithographic limestone, which has become a major archaeological site, the Cerin quarry tells you its story through explanatory and fun stations.

Its lithographic limestone rock was extracted for many years to be used for stone engraving printing throughout Europe. In the XNUMXth century, a team of archaeologists revealed a quantity of fossils of all kinds (reptiles, fish, fauna, flora, giant tortoises, etc.) testifying to the very distant past of a tropical lagoon in this corner of the mountain, today an integral part of the Bugey massif.

An interpretation trail offers an educational itinerary to discover the natural and historical riches of this site. Walks and activities are offered there from time to time by the Conservatoire des Espaces Naturels de l'Ain.

The Cerin museum, opposite the entrance to the quarry, welcomes the public to discover the main geological principles and presents the results of the archaeological excavations of the quarry.
