Tips and Suggestions
The circuit has a shorter version, starting from the hamlet of Onglas (Bénonces). The Luizet waterfall can also be visited on its own in a 1h30 round trip from Onglas.
In a circus, the waterfall falls from a height of 100m and then joins the river "La Pernaz" which descends in a gorge to join the Rhône. A site to visit during the favorable periods of spring and autumn for a more spectacular flow The waterfall is accessible on foot (about 45 minutes walk).
From the Onglas car park: Leave the car park on the left and take the path on the right that goes to the Luizet waterfall. Return by the same route. Count 1h30 walk for the round trip.
The Cascade de Luizet is one of the beautiful surprises of the Pernaz river, labeled "ENS*" by the Department of Ain in 2015.
True natural and landscape jewels of the Department of Ain, the sites benefiting from the ENS label "*Sensitive natural spaces" are managed in such a way as to preserve the biodiversity they host and arranged for opening to the public (except in exceptional cases due to the fragility backgrounds).
This very preserved river, whose karstic geology forms numerous waterfalls and creates very fragile tuff habitats, is also labeled "Rivière Sauvage" in January 2020.
The village of Bénonces with its picturesque character reveals its traditional habitat, bread ovens, houses with awnings and sides of scale tiles. It is home to the Charterhouse of Portes, a monastery dating from 1115 (cannot be visited). The village of Bénonces is dominated by the rocky outcrop: the rock of Cuny. This rock bears a cross which is accessible in 3/4 hour walk from the village. From there, an orientation table will allow you to admire a superb panorama of Bugey and Dauphiné.
Another exceptional point of view, that of the orientation table of Mont Frioland (1029 m) on the col de Portes. A short walk to reach the Calvaire de Portes and you can enjoy a view from Mont-Blanc to the Cévennes.
From the hamlet of Onglas, you can reach the Luizet waterfall in around 45 minutes on foot. Here, the river falls from a height of 100 m then descends in a gorge to join the Rhône.

At the heart of a vast green space, at the edge of a 200-hectare lake and at the foot of the first foothills of the Jura, the Point-Vert leisure center is an ideal place for your moments of relaxation and a starting point for many activities. Ideal for family picnics with games for children, this place will also charm you with the wealth of outdoor activities, whether land or water.

With the wise advice of the instructors of the nautical base located on the site, adventurers of all persuasions can also explore the islands aboard catamarans and other sailboats, on the lookout for beavers, swans, mallards and other furry or feathers that populate the body of water.
The novelty: self-service paddles in a distributor at the entrance to the leisure center! Via a free application, book your paddle (up to 5 paddles available) and enjoy the calm and swimming alone or in a group.

A great classic, this canyon presents a succession of jumps and small waterfalls with many deep potholes. It offers magnificent landscapes in lush vegetation. Playful with some sensational verticals and slides. This canyon is ideal to discover at the beginning of the season, in spring, or
after heavy rains which will increase the flow. Suitable for the initiation and discovery of supervised canyoning.
The first part is very calm and very pleasant, punctuated by many slides or jumps (your choice). The progression is stopped by a nice abseil of 15 meters (but no depth). There follow a few jumps which punctuate the second part, interspersed with narrower passages, where the water has smoothed the limestone walls. The course ends with a big jump of about 7 meters (chills guaranteed). An obvious path on the right bank leads back to the village.
Waterfalls, deep potholes, sinking, this is in three words what awaits you in this too short descent of Bugey. The water always flows a little, which makes it possible to cool off in the summer. At the last collection, pleasure of a resurgence on the head. Several jumps serve as hors d'oeuvres before arriving at a beautiful steep part which precedes a few waterfalls. After 200m of walking, a new steep-sided area with a low drop puts an end to the descent. Canyon with little verticality, therefore suitable for beginners but of limited interest.
Goblet and feet in the green, nature is generous! The simplicity of a short hike in the meadow and the conviviality of a shared moment are the driving forces of this beautiful getaway. With small grazed steps, let's savor the authenticity! You come ? With small steps, slowly but surely, with our 7-league boots, we escape from everyday life. Here the noise no longer exists, the agitation has ceased. We listen to the silence. We discover a universe populated by birds with melodious songs and fantastic little beings.
Do we dare to go a little further and disturb this perfect painting, worthy of a great master impressionist? For a contemplative moment, we take the time and we stay there, motionless.
Here the slender flapping of the butterfly's wings, there the little hum of the bee in search of gluttony. It's beautiful and swirling! We walk through the coolness of the woods and together we explore an unknown land.
We venture on trails in search of the lost ark. You will not find a chest but many other treasures: the joy of a moment shared in the middle of nature, the charm of a remote village made of stone or the authentic flavor of a local product.
It smacks of controlled adventure, but free to express itself over the seasons. At the end of the day, we have an impression of the sun lifting the veil of rediscovered simplicity.
Once our hiking boots have been removed, we let our glasses clink and the secret perfume of a Bugey wine express itself. We combine generosity and conviviality before a well-deserved rest. And just before closing our eyes a desire already assails us, that of planting the stick and making the gravel crunch, a little more often very close to the house
