The Chantabeau laundry

Washhouse Chantabeau Meximieux

Built in 1880, this washhouse is located under a dwelling house. The ceiling of the room where it is located corresponds to the floor of the apartment. The Chantabeau spring feeds it. The frescoes were designed and produced by:

Its source is the water from the Thiévon fountain, renowned for its purity and the regularity of its flow.
The washhouse has on one of its sides (the one that is best protected) a bevelled beater on both sides.
The land was purchased by the municipality from the Carret family on March 18, 1878 for the sum of 1300 francs. It was also a meeting place for local women.
The closest car park is the car park along the avenue Dr Berthier containing about twenty places, there is also the car park of Lieutenant Giraud, nearby limited to 2 hours (blue zone).
