Reduced mobility adaptation
Overlooking the Rhône, at the foot of the Massif du Bugey, the site of the old quarries of Villebois enhances what made the reputation of the town of Villebois: its limestone, sometimes called "choin de Villebois" exploited until the middle of the 20th century .
The slabs of the Octave and the quarry of the Orange present traces of tanks which attest to the transport of the stone to the Rhône.
The quarries and the slabs of the Octave are connected by hiking trails and can therefore be the subject of a walk. Free entertainment is provided by the Conservatory of Rhônes-Alpes natural spaces.
An interpretation trail offers the discovery of this built heritage and natural environments whose biodiversity and landscapes are linked to the exploitation of choin.
The "ENS" of Ain:
All three environments were labeled Sensitive Natural Spaces in 2017. True natural and landscape gems of the Ain Department, the sites with the ENS "Sensitive Natural Spaces" label are managed in such a way as to preserve the biodiversity they host. and fitted out for opening to the public (except for exceptions due to the fragility of the environment)
