Cycling loop of the meanders of the Rhône, ENS de l'Ain

The loop can also be done on foot.
We discover a pretty little stone chapel and a lake in addition to the alluvial forest.
The circuit revolves around the marsh, a major natural site on the banks of the Rhône river.

Several centuries ago, the Rhône passed through here all year round.
When it receded, the waters were gradually covered by sediments, then by peat, giving way to marshy meadows and humid forests along the river, over nearly 90 hectares.

These environments tend to become rare in France.
They are home to characteristic fauna and flora, such as the bladderwort, a carnivorous floating plant, or the warbler, a bird typical of reedbeds.
They constitute a veritable "hot spot" of biodiversity and are home to a large number of remarkable and protected species: for example, the European pond turtle, the beaver and the tree frog are all present on the site!

An interpretation trail has been used since 2014 to appreciate the riches of this site.
Free walks and activities are offered from time to time by the Conservatoire des Espaces Naturels de l'Ain.
