Where to find beer near Pérouges?

Personalized craft breweries, the department of Ain has no shortage of them. With almost 15 micro-breweries, the East of Lyon is rather well supplied with quality beers. Whether you're on vacation or on your way home, local brewers have you covered. To enjoy on the spot with friends or to bring back as a souvenir, a bottle of beer is always a good idea. A short brewery stroll on the territory of Pérouges Bugey Tourisme* to feel like summer all year round.

Pérouges Bugey Tourisme is putting on the colors of Saint-Patrick's Day. For March 17, our article gives you all the good addresses to celebrate Ireland!

Three breweries on the test bench

Malt Emoi: the family brewery

In this artisanal and family brewery, Denis and Lucille pamper their beers born between Dombes and Bugey. 10 minutes from the medieval city of Pérouges, father and daughter welcome you for a break of freshness and flavors. You will inevitably find your happiness among the line of beers of all colors. Like children, each has its own character! Moreover, the youngest ones, matured in St-Joseph wine barrels, have personality.

In addition to the traditional ones or the IPA, the brewery likes to produce ephemeral ranges. Dombes saffron beers (100% local product) or seasonal beer with a local taste. Do not miss its always unusual flavors. And for lovers of alcohol-free bubbles, the house produces an artisanal lemonade.

The little more 🍻 : Emo Malt received the Saveurs de l'Ain label for its products attached to their terroir.

La Leymentaise: the eco-responsible micro-brewery

Bière La Leymentaise

In Leyment, the absence of a lake does not prevent the practice of breaststroke (but not casting). Bastien and Cédric, recently installed, already produce bottles of blond and white beer at a good pace. And the new amber beer was born in the fall of 2021.

But what we already prefer in this micro-brewery is its ecological manufacturing. Organic artisanal malt and French hops, donation of cereal residues to a farmer, consignment and reuse of bottles... An almost 100% "green" beer (except for the colour, don't worry).

The little more 🍻: the Leymentaise brewery open every other Wednesday for the curious.

The potions of the city: the cellar and beer bar

The new kid at the foot of the medieval town of Pérouges. Roland travels through the artisanal breweries of Ain and further afield to unearth hoppy nuggets. Its shelves are already full of local treasures (Malt Emoi and La Leymentaise first) and by the way. The boss talks about his findings with expertise and makes mousse fly with its good advice. But the undeniable bonus is to taste the pressures "by the beak" on the discreet shop terrace. Address alert to happen between enlightened amateurs.

The little more 🍻: To the potions of the city you can take your beer in “growlers” (large pressurized glass containers). And some bottles are even returnable.

Food-beer pairings: an original alliance

Speaking of which, what should you accompany the beer with? An aperitif drink par excellence, it can also be drunk on its own at the end of a meal. But in the middle?

In Pérouges, several have already embarked on the experiment. The famous Rivière d'Ain brasserie and the terraces restaurant have created a beer to flatter the sweet accents of the famous Pérouges galette. Events with Sophie's Galettes to taste the happy marriage. La Bressane also offered the city its beer with medieval spices. It is to be tasted at the Relais de la Tour. Why not with a good red meat or foie gras?

The other unexpected food-beer pairing is with cheese. And our friends from Jura whispered to us that the Comté lends itself perfectly to it. Blonde beer with a young Comté, amber with a fruity Comté and a pint of brown with an Old Comté. Something to delight friends as an aperitif or offer an alternative to white wine with Savoyard fondue!

Beer, the gift that always pleases

A box of beers, the ideal gift. Perfect souvenir of your stay between Pérouges and Bugey. Or just for a Christmas or birthday present. The multiple flavors make it the perfect idea for any enthusiast. Good plan: the IPAin pack (selection of IPA from Ain) at the potions of the city in Meximieux.

In addition, meeting the brewers is always a privileged moment. It's even a great idea for a bachelor party. So, shall we have a little beer?

*As usual, let's be clear: alcohol is dangerous for your health. To tell your friends about your stay/weekend – so that they in turn come and enjoy it – you have to be able to remember it and have returned safe and sound. Be responsible in your drinking and don't drive drunk.
