From Perouges to Bugey
The ascent without doubt the most difficult but the most beautiful!
The Col de Portes, also called Calvaire de Portes (1 m), is one of the highest passes in the region with 010 possible ascents. From Serrières de Briord it is the best known and certainly the most difficult climb on all sides. This long, fairly sustained 8 km climb has a vertical drop of 12 m and a maximum gradient of 782% in its most difficult part, because there is no respite, near the sheepfolds of Coux then on the D9.2 which joins the Col.
The route follows very pleasant roads without too much traffic which offers magnificent landscapes of astonishing diversity (fresh forests, grazing valleys, belvederes on the chain of the Alps...) and a rich heritage with traditional bugiste architecture with its rural houses with stepped gables covered with lauzes.
Magnificent view of the superb Charterhouse of Portes and the Alps in the Cévennes.
