From Perouges to Bugey

Motorcycle: Pérouges/Oncieu, the two villages in a circle

Pet Friendly

Two villages in a circle: Pérouges, the medieval city and Oncieu, the village in the shape of a ring... Two curiosities to discover on a motorcycle ride between two Albarine plateaus: from the panorama of Evosges to the winding roads of Jargoy. 3h for 100km.

From Lyon, the medieval city of Pérouges can be reached in less than an hour. By the A42 motorway, the most direct, or by the Dombes, to stroll among the ponds and undergrowth.

The medieval city opens its doors to you all year round. For a visit in complete freedom, or a guided tour, reserved at the tourist office! A real time travel. Free motorcycle parking, under the church. Motorcycle boots are not very suitable for walking on cobblestones, especially in wet weather.

Then head for the Albarine Valley. The direct route (D1084) is not the interesting part, however it will only take 20min. You can always get lost in the countryside before reaching Saint-Rambert-en-Bugey. Prefer the route of the old tram, passing between Torcieu and Serrières, to avoid the national.

After crossing St-Rambert-en-Bugey, the mountain begins! In front of us opens the reliefs of a green valley. On arrival in Torcieu, a tour of the village on foot is a must. For lunch, the Auberge d'Oncieu will be the perfect place. Terrace or fireside, depending on the season.

Two kilometers above, obligatory stop at the cross of Evosges. Superb panorama over the village of Oncieu and its curious circular shape. The valley and promising hairpin roads come into view. Free parking, behind the paragliding decoration.

Crossing the plateau via Evosges, and descent all in laces to Tenay. A real pleasure to zigzag on a road with little traffic. Then take Plomb, to avoid the unattractive ring road to reach Argis. The good tip: the bar restaurant café "le hérisson gourmand" is biker friendly!
[A detour via Chaley and the Charabotte waterfall, to the northeast is appreciable].

We end with a road, almost unknown to cars, on the Jargoy plateau. With a view of the Evosges cliff to the east, and the valley that opens up at every bend. In a bend, a small sign indicates "Madonna 400 m". We recommend the detour on foot, leaving the bike at the start of the agricultural path. Nice little view.

On arrival in Arandas, Le Gaec du Perce-Neige can welcome you for a tasting of its Bleu cheese (world medalist) or the local cheese "Ramequin". Thrills guaranteed! (make an appointment)

Those who would like to spend the night can stop at the "Auberge de la Vieille Cure". The establishment is Relais Motard. Parking and equipment are at your disposal. The perfect address to set off again, the next day, to tackle other motorcycle rides in Bugey.

Descent back into the cool undergrowth along the river with the sweet name of "La Câline". Variant by Blanaz to make the pleasure last.

Be careful, the whole circuit from St-Rambert en-B is strewn with small gravel. A few potholes. Let's be careful.
